Parent/Tot Swim Lessons

PARENT / TOT

This lesson is intended for children 6 months through 3 years of age.  This class is great for beginning lessons! The goal of this class is for young children to become comfortable in the water and to work in a group lesson environment. This course does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers or survive alone in the water. Parents must accompany their children in the pool. Children who are not potty trained are required to use non-disposable swim diapers. These can be purchased at the Aquaplex front desk. Your child will not be permitted to participate without diapers.

What to Expect

For swimmers – Swimmers should have a swim suit, towel, and be ready to have fun in the water for every lesson. Goggles and caps are optional for all levels. It’s highly recommended to wear sunscreen applied 15 minutes prior to the lesson.

For parents – Parents are required to stay at the facility during their child’s lesson for safety and security reasons. Parents may watch lessons from the bleachers or deck, relax in the Aquaplex lobby, or purchase a membership/ pass and lap swim in the 50-meter pool. To prevent children from losing focus, we ask that parents do not swim with their child before their lessons. Only children enrolled in the classes are allowed in the Open Swim areas and only during their designated class time. We encourage parents to return with their children during family swim hours.

Wait List

There is a 24 hour policy for all wait lists; if we do not hear back from you within 24 hours of placing a call, the space in the class will be filled by the next available person.

Pool Info

Most lessons take place in the Rec Pool of the Aquaplex. The Rec Pool is continuously regulated to ensure a proper chemical balance and a comfortable water temperature of 83° to 84°.

Parking

All parking on campus is paid parking seven days-per-week. “R” lot is closest to the Aquaplex and "T" lot is directly across the street. Permits purchased from the "R" lot kiosk are also valid in "T" lot. Hourly metered parking is also available in Structure 5 on the corner of 55th St. and Montezuma Rd. When parking in Structure 5, park on the lower level northwest corner after obtaining a permit from a yellow kiosk. Walk northwest across athletic fields to the Aquaplex. Semester parking permits are available for purchase from the SDSU cashier’s office.
